Q.
A. A good rule of thumb is to estimate the largest number of members who will use the facility at any given time and double that number. This allows for the "swing factor" (those members coming and going before and after peak usage). If you are designing a new facility, this estimated number needs to be determined by research and demand analysis as part of sizing determination for the entire facility.
Q.
A. One answer is to let your space, membership numbers and budget dictate this, since attractive, spacious lockers can be a good selling tool. A majority of clubs use half lockers, (Model B) sometimes interspersing these with a full locker (Model A). If your facility is urban with lots of business professionals, you may want to consider the "Z" Frame locker. This style of locker takes up the same amount of space as the Model B locker, but allows more vertical hanging space for longer suit coats, dresses and skirts.
Q.
A. If you have 2 banks of lockers facing one another with a bench in the center, you need to allow a minimum of 2 feet between the bench edge and the locker face. Thirty to thirty-six inches between the bench and locker face is optimum. Without a bench, four feet between lockers is a bare minimum for a day use locker, but it is okay for smaller locker models that a member rents for storage of shoes and personal care items.
Q.
A. If you have the space and the right clientele, convenient Model E or F lockers can be profitably rented and show a return on investment. Beyond profit, this amenity can be another tool in membership sales and retention, which ultimately adds to that bottom line.
